Web-Project #NichtUnserKrieg launched

Participants of Journalist Program at Freie Universität Berlin Initiate Video Project Dealing with Ukraine Crisis

№ 283/2014 from Aug 06, 2014

They come from Russia, Azerbaijan, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine: During a journalistic workshop, 15 participants of the “Journalisten International” program at Freie Universität Berlin launched the online-project #NichtUnserKrieg (“#NotOurWar”) dealing with the Ukraine crisis. It contains video messages calling for peace from the young journalists as well as personal stories and experiences in Russian, Ukrainian, and German.

The video messages are available on the website http://nichtunserkrieg.jimdo.com/. The project focusing on wartime reporting was carried out at the end of July with the help of the “Axel Springer Akademie,” a Berlin-based School of Journalism. The participants consider the crisis not only an armed conflict but also a media and propaganda war and decided to represent their own positions toward the conflict.

The three-month study program “Journalisten International” is an annual offer for upcoming journalists from Russia and the Ukraine, as well as from other successor states of the former Soviet Union. The main concern is the development of a strong civil society and an independent journalism. Annually up to 15 young journalists are awarded a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for studying in Berlin. The program is organized and executed by the International Center for Journalism at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at Freie Universität Berlin.
