International Summer and Winter University FUBiS of Freie Universität Berlin Welcomes Students for Second Term in 2014

139 Participants from 15 Countries / Term to Run through July 12

№ 197/2014 from May 30, 2014

The second term of the International Summer and Winter School FUBiS at Freie Universität Berlin started on Sunday with participants from 15 countries. A total of 139 students are registered for this six-week term. They will be taking German language classes and other classes such as European history. Most of the students are from the United States, China, and Taiwan. The term will run until July 12.

The students can choose between German language classes or other relevant classes taught in English or a combination of the two. Besides the language courses, FUBiS offers classes on a variety of topics, such as the museum culture of Berlin, the history of the German nations from a European perspective, and German literature. Students can earn internationally recognized credits for all the FUBiS courses. The academic program on the campus of Freie Universität is supplemented by field trips: the program includes a boat trip on the River Spree, a tour along the former Berlin Wall, and a tour of the Reichstag. There is an option for students to take day and weekend trips to Dresden, Weimar, and Hamburg.

The Summer University was initiated in 1998, and it was augmented with a winter term in 2007. This year the academic quality of FUBiS was re-certified by the Forum on Education Abroad. In 2013 FUBiS attracted around 500 students to Freie Universität.
