№ 071/2014 from Mar 04, 2014
On Tuesday the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science, Dr. Mariëtte Bussemaker, was a guest at Freie Universität Berlin. Members of the Dutch delegation and Prof. Dr. Peter-André Alt, the president of Freie Universität Berlin, took a look at the implementation of several projects at Freie Universität that are funded through the German national Excellence Initiative. They also discussed instruments suitable for facilitating research as well as various possibilities for cooperation with non-university research institutions.
Freie Universität is one of eleven German universities that were successful in all three funding lines of the national Excellence Initiative in 2012, winning additional funding for the university's development strategy. Under the motto "Veritas – Justitia – Libertas. International Network University," Freie Universität is proceeding to further develop the university in the footsteps of its founding tradition. Building on the successful implementation of the university's winning development strategy in the 2007 Excellence Initiative, "International Network University," Freie Universität follows its core values – truth, justice, and liberty – in developing academic networks in the areas of research, internationalization, and the promotion of young researchers. To implement its development strategy, Freie Universität set up three strategic centers: for research planning, for international cooperation, and for promoting young talent. Within the framework of the Excellence Initiative, there are also three research clusters and seven graduate schools based at Freie Universität Berlin or with Freie Universität Berlin as a participating institution.
