Fall Term in Germany

Berlin European Studies (FU-BEST) Has Record Numbers of Students in New Term

№ 229/2012 from Aug 21, 2012

The semester program "Berlin European Studies" (FU-BEST) at Freie Universität started on Tuesday with a record number of students. Altogether 151 students, most of them from the United States, were welcomed to Berlin. The fall semester will run through the beginning of December. Most of the courses are taught in English and deal with the history, politics, society, and culture of Germany and Europe. German language classes at eight different levels are also part of the curriculum. The program includes projects, field trips, and varied cultural events.

FU-BEST was founded in 2005 and is aimed primarily at North American students. The semester dates are adjusted to coincide with the North American academic schedule. There is a fall semester (September–December) and a spring semester (April–July). In 2011 the program was the first of its kind in Germany to be successfully evaluated by the American Forum on Education Abroad, one of the largest professional organizations in the United States for educational programs abroad. FU-BEST, based at Brentano St. 50-52 in Steglitz, is organized for Freie Universität by the ERG University Service GmbH.
