Freie Universität has received a pledge from the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation in the amount of more than 300,000 euros earmarked for reference literature in the humanities. The funds will be made available to the Philological Library and the University Library for expanding their collections of books in the humanities, and in particular, philosophy. Another focus will be on establishing a comprehensive collection of literature published by Jewish publishing houses between 1933 and 1938. Additions will also be made to the reference books in the University Library. Between 2001 and 2008, the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation already sponsored the libraries at Freie Universität Berlin with a total amount of 725,000 euros.
The purpose of the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation is to promote science and academics. One of the foundation’s programs supports the acquisition of academic literature for university libraries in the new German federal states. Freie Universität Berlin was able to benefit from this program.
