On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the German-Turkish recruitment agreement of 1961, the Institute for Arts and Media Management of Freie Universität Berlin and Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul are holding a German-Turkish cultural media conference and festival from September 24 to October 8. Cultural and scholarly events will focus on aspects of social and cultural identity. The program consists of discussion forums, colloquiums, fashion performances, readings, film nights, and concerts. The governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, is the patron of the festival.
The first part of the festival’s title B-34: Kultürk consists of the car license plate numbers of the cities of Berlin (B) and Istanbul (34). The event was developed by German, Turkish, and European students and their instructors and aims to portray the diversity of the cities of Berlin and Istanbul. The various events within the 15-day festival are being designed and presented by writers, scholars, entrepreneurs, artists, film, music, and fashion designers from Germany and Turkey.
