№ 246/2010 from Jul 22, 2010
The International Summer and Winter University (FUBiS) at Freie Universität Berlin has a record enrollment for its current four-week term with 369 students from 54 countries taking German classes and other subjects. Most of the students will receive credit from their home universities for credits earned at FUBiS. The program will run until August 14, 2010.
The concept of a summer university at Freie Universität for international students was initiated in 1998. Three years ago a winter term was added. The students have an opportunity to take German courses at five different levels. They can choose whether they prefer classes on three days per week, or the intensive program with five days of class per week. In addition, courses are offered in the fields of architecture, politics, literature, history, economics, and art, which take place twice a week and are taught predominantly in English. The language courses can be combined with the other subjects.
Besides the academic courses, the program includes a boat trip on the Spree and a tour of the Reichstag building. In addition, day and weekend trips to Hamburg, Dresden, or the Spreewald can be booked.
