The Institute of Islamic Studies, Freie Universität, is hosting nine Yemeni students at a German-Yemeni course in Berlin from July 19 to 25, 2010. Last year students from Freie Universität were already at Sana’a University. In a multi-day course the students spoke about perceptions of each other’s cultures. This dialog will now be continued with a return visit to Berlin. The summer school theme is “Yemen and Germany: The Experience of Division or Shared Experience?”
The program will include a discussion about what is typically “East/West” or “North/South” with reference to the former divisions in North and South Yemen and East and West Germany. The course program will be accompanied by a visit to the Museum of Islamic Art, conversations with MPs, and various leisure activities.
