Freie Universität Berlin Announces Election Date

Election of the President and Executive Vice President Scheduled for May 2010

On Monday the central election committee of Freie Universität Berlin announced the election date for the new president and executive vice president of the university. The scheduled election date for both offices is May 12, 2010. The position of president was advertised on Monday, with the application period ending February 26, 2010. The Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees of Freie Universität Berlin were asked to select the nominations for both positions and submit them to the central election committee by April 6, 2010. 

In November 2009 the current president of Freie Universität Berlin, Professor Dr. Dieter Lenzen, was elected as the new president of the University of Hamburg. His tenure in Berlin is expected to end during the first quarter of this year. With his departure the terms of all the vice presidents of Freie Universität will also end, but they will remain in office until their successors are duly elected and take office. The executive vice president, Professor Dr. Ursula Lehmkuhl, will carry on official business after Lenzen leaves office.
