The long-term goal of the nongovenmental organization (NGO) Animals’ Angels is to abolish the long-distance transportation of animals. For the past twelve years investigation teams from the NGO have been carrying out on-site investigations of the transportation of animals on highways, rest areas, and markets as well as at holding areas, ports, and slaughterhouses. As an NGO the Animals’ Angels investigators only have the right to document and report the transports, but they have no official power to help the animals directly in their often painful situation. Therefore, they need the support of official veterinarians to determine the health of animals and possibly to intervene.
The exhibition on the Düppel campus of Freie Universität will run until June 15, 2010. Beyond being of general interest, it is intended as an appeal to students who in the future will be working as veterinarians, that they might support the cause of spceies-appropriate transportion of livestock and farm animals.
