Music and Dance from China

Theater Ensemble from Peking University to Perform January 29 at Freie Universität

№ 10/2010 from Jan 14, 2010

An event scheduled for January 29, 2010, at Freie Universität Berlin, should provide an entertaining insight into Chinese culture. During its tour of North Africa and Europe, the student theater ensemble of Peking University – a long-term partner university of Freie Universität – will be performing in the Henry Ford Building. The cast consists of 20 artists whose repertoire includes folk dances, arias, and other vocal pieces as well as demonstrations of sword techniques. The orchestra combines traditional Chinese and Western music.

The show is being hosted by the Confucius Institute at Freie Universität Berlin, an institute established in 2006 in cooperation between Freie Universität and Peking University. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Advance registration is not required.

After the performance there will be a reception and an opportunity to converse with the artists – in Chinese or English.

At information stands in the foyer, there will be information available about the degree programs in Chinese Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, possibilities for student exchange with Peking University and other Chinese universities, and the events and courses offered by the Confucius Institute at Freie Universität Berlin.
