№ 359/2009 from Dec 09, 2009
Freie Universität Berlin performed extremely well in the current research ranking by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) with numerous top placings in the fields of the investigated indicators. For the third consecutive time, chemistry at Freie Universität is in the leading group of research universities in Germany in the latest ranking of the natural sciences. Medicine at Charité, jointly operated by Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität, also remains in the top group.
The disciplines of chemistry and medicine share their outstanding research achievements, especially in publications and inventions, and thus make an important contribution to the transfer of knowledge. Thanks to significantly improved success in the acquisition of third-party funding, mathematics has also been placed in the group of strong research universities.
Across its entire range of subjects, Freie Universität Berlin has once again achieved excellent results in the CHE Ranking. The high number of doctorates conferred, the steadily increasing volume of external funding, and the high visibility of the publications all indicate that further improvement in future rankings can be expected.
