The political scientist Claire-Lise Buis has been awarded the Disseration Award for 2009 by the Franco-German University (FGU), Saarbrücken, and the Association pour l’emploi des cadres (Apec). She has been granted the 4,500-euro award for her doctoral thesis written at the Otto Suhr Institute of Freie Universität and the Ecole Doctorale of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po).
The title of Buis's dissertation is "Demokratie(n) auf dem Prüfstand. Deutschland, Frankreich und der ,innere Feind‘. Diskurs über den Feind und demokratische Identität in Parlamentsdebatten seit dem Ende der 1960er Jahre" [Democracy(s) under the Microscope. Germany, France, and the 'Enemy Within.' Discourse on the Enemy and Democratic Identity in Parliamentary Debates since the Late 1960s]. Buis defended her dissertation before a Franco-German jury in Paris, and she was awarded the distinction summa cum laude. She is a freelance journalist and correspondent, currently based in Berlin.
