Germany’s First Postgraduate Program for American Journalists at Freie Universität Berlin

Invitation to Press Conference on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 12:00

№ 170/2008 from Jun 06, 2008

Marking the start of a new, one-of-its-kind in Germany post-graduate program for foreign journalists, there will be a press conference on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 12:00. Participants will include Professor Dr. Günter von Lojewski, former director of the public radio and television service for West Berlin, Sender Freies Berlin (SFB), and American, Russian, and other Eastern European journalists in the program.

For the first time, the Journalisten-Kolleg of Freie Universität Berlin is offering young representatvives of the media from the U.S.A. a semester of post-graduate training. The program is called "internXchange." As part of this program, journalists from the United States will be meeting with colleagues from the former Eastern bloc countries. "internXchange" will be held parallel with the program "Journalisten International" that provides fellowships for journalists from former Eastern bloc countries to study in Berlin. During the ten years of its existence, this program has enabled almost 200 journalists from  Russia, Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine to spend a semester in Berlin.

Both programs last for three months. They include seminars about Germany and the European Union as well as internships with various media companies in Berlin. The American, Russian, and Eastern European colleagues will jointly prepare a theme concerning Berlin for a newspaper and a broadcasting corporation.
