Dahlem International Network Professorship for Gender Studies

Gender equality and the promotion of gender studies have been firmly rooted in the ethos of Freie Universität Berlin for more than three decades. They are central features of the university’s Institutional Strategy "Veritas – Justitia – Libertas. International Network University," which won Freie Universität Berlin excellence status in the German Excellence Initiative funding program for universities. It is within this context that the Dahlem International Network Professorship for Gender Studies was established.

The Dahlem International Network Professorship for Gender Studies aims to strengthen gender studies within the key research focus areas of the Freie Universität Berlin and to promote international and interdisciplinary gender studies research. It contributes to internationalizing research and teaching and, by integrating the visiting professor into existing research projects, also enhances the perspectives of current research at the university.

The visiting professorship aims to attract international researchers of outstanding academic achievement in the field of gender studies. Nominations are accepted from professors, heads of gender studies research projects and spokespersons for interdisciplinary collaborative research projects at Freie Universität Berlin.

The Professorship is announced annually and was awarded for the first time in the winter semester of 2013/14.
