To strengthen the partnership and identify new opportunities for cooperation, Prof. Dr. Peter-André Alt, the president of Freie Universität Berlin, visited the University of California, Berkeley in early October.

The strategic partnership between the two universities was first established in September 2016. New areas of cooperation were now identified in talks with newly appointed Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ and the deans of the College of Letters and Science. They include a co-sponsored lecture series on freedom of speech as well as intensified collaboration on sustainability issues. An informal alumni meeting of Freie Universität Berlin at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club concluded the visit. About 30 alumni and friends of Freie Universität as well as partners from UC Berkeley mingled on the Club’s terrace on a particularly pleasant October evening as President Alt took an opportunity to share insights into current developments at Freie Universität.
