Opened in 2009 as the first Liaison Office of a German university in Brussels, the office is responsible for the monitoring of all developmentes related to Research and Innovation at the European Level, where particular attention is being paid to the EU-Framework Programmes. The EU Liaison Office of Freie Universität Berlin provides targeted information to the researchers and the board of the university. It also acts an interface between actors of the European Research Landscape and the scientists of Freie Universität Berlin.
As an International Network University, Freie Universität Berlin actively promotes the exchange on recent scientific achievements, innovative research, and priorities for the future that are also relevant for the planning and implementation of research funding on the European level. Therefore, the tasks of the EU Liaison Office include the matching of supply and demand of this academic expertise and to support the dialogue between scholars of Freie Universität Berlin and relevant actors in research and innovation in the European Institutions.
Researchers at Freie Universität Berlin have excellent knowledge and academic expertise, covering the whole range of areas identified as the most pressing societal challenges in the EU. The EU Liaison Office encourages researchers to make use of the various opportunities to engage and participate in the processes of EU research policy making, such as EU Consultations, bilateral talks, workshops, and contributions to EU discussions and events.
The EU Liaison Office supports researchers of Freie Universität Berlin in their networking activities and the organization of project meetings and events in Brussels. It is also available to answer general and strategic questions on Horizon 2020.
The colleagues of the Team Research Support and Information provide researchers of Freie Universität with information on procedures regarding the application for and administration of EU funded research projects.
