At a Glance

At the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, students are introduced into the basics of diverse forms of pharmacotherapy and taught about the effects, production and use of drugs as well as compounding and pharmaceutical law including controlled substances.

The institutes' research focuses on the analysis of causes for allergic skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis in humans and animals as well as on pathophysiology and possible treatments of chronic itch (pruritus). In this context, experiments are conducted on cell cultures and isolated perfused organs as a contribution to the 3R principles.

A new focus constitutes the research on infectious skin diseases of the dog. Here, the focus lies on new therapeutic approaches, which can counteract the increasing development of antibiotic resistance.
