The Institute for Arts and Media Management (IKM) is more than just a university institution that offers an application-oriented master’s degree program. Located in Dahlem, a southwestern district of Berlin, the institute itself, the faculty, and above all the students combine to act as a center of competency for the cultural institutions and business sector in the entire urban area surrounding Berlin – and beyond.
Activities at the IKM focus on teaching, research, and production. The four-semester master’s degree program in Arts and Media Administration offers a hands-on university education for the field of cultural and media activities. Students have the opportunity to put the knowledge and skills they have acquired into practice even before they graduate, as part of supervised practical projects.
Research at the IKM focuses on transformation processes in culture and media. The principal areas of research are: audience development, youth cultures as media cultures, and structural transformation of the media.
The IKM concentrates its international activities on the United States, China, and Turkey, as regions of strategic interest.
