At a Glance
Turkic Studies deals with the languages, literatures, history, religions, and the intellectual and material culture of the Turkic peoples in the past and present, an area of research which has been considerably expanded in both content and geographical scope by the Turkish labor migration in recent decades.
The Institute of Turkic Studies was founded at Freie Universität in 1991 and is the only one of its kind in Berlin and Brandenburg. Students at the institute can acquire knowledge and skills covering the broadest possible spectrum of Turkic Studies, preparing them for careers in academia, the media, international organizations, and intercultural institutions.
