Rising inequality has become an important issue in East Asian countries. Economic growth and democratic consolidation have been critical in the region. Several Korean scholars collaboratively working on the political economy of inequality and democracy visit the GEAS and hold a workshop on “Democracy and Political Economy in East Asia”. The panel consists of the presentation of the two papers, followed by discussions.

  • Yangho Rhee (Korea University): “Inequality and the Politics of Redistribution in China”
  • Hyeok Yong Kwon (Korea University) and Hang Keun Ryu (Chung Ang University): “Demographics of Global Democracy and Role of Population: Economic and Democratic Successes of East Asian Countries.”
